Cubic Yards Required:

Concrete is measured and sold by the cubic yard (called simply a yard). A yard is a volume that is 3 x 3 x3 = 27 cubic feet. To estimate the amount of concrete needed, calulate the cubic footage of the area to be filled. (Width in ft.) x (length in ft.) x (thickness in ft.) = cubic feet. Divide by 27 to obtain cubic yards. For footing widths in inches use decimal equivalents:

16" = 1'-4" or 1.333 18" = 1'-6" or 1.50
20" = 1'-8" or 1.666 22" = 1'-10" or 1.833
24" = 2'-0" or 2.0
